Q&A

Q: While attempting to connect, there appears a message: "The line was busy..."

A: Try manually, using your phone, to call the Medianis dial-up numbers 500-000 (from Nis ) or 042 110 010 (from the rest of Serbia ). If you get through and hear the characteristic sound of a modem, there are two possible problems:

- your modem is configured on tone dialing which is not supported by your phone line;

- the phone line is inserted in the wrong place on the modem.

If the busy signal is present while dialing manually, it is possible that there is a break in the PTT network between your phone line and the MediaNis dial-up modems. In that case contact your local post office about possible problems with the PTT lines, and do contact our technical support team for more information or the information obtained from the post office.

Q: While attempting to connect I get a message :"No dial tone"

A: A great majority of modems is configured with PTT standards different from domestic ones, so that they do not have the possibility to "recognize" free dial signal being used in our country. It is necessary to configure the modem on "Blind Dial", that is to say, to start dialing a specified telephone number without waiting for the signal which does not exist. The process of modem configuring is as follows:

- click on the My computer icon and then on Dial-Up networking
- right click on the MediaNis dial-up icon and choose Properties;
- then click on Configure;
- at the top of the window select the Connection menu;
- in the Call Preferences section deselect the Wait for dial tone before dialing option;
- click on the Advanced button;
- in the Extra settings field type "X3" (without commas);
- Then click "OK" to close all the windows that you just opened and try reconnecting to MediaNis.

Q: Every attempt to connect is unsuccessful, after a minute or two the same message appears : "The computer you dialed did not answer"

A: If besides the dialing number you do not hear any sounds from your modem, and there was usually a sound present in previous connections, it is likely that your modem is not connected to the phone line. Check all the phone connections or the cable between the phone line and the modem. Also, make sure that the cable is connected to the modem in the right place.

Q: While connecting, the modems are communicating longer than usual, and then a message appears "Disconnecting..." or "The computer you dialed did not answer".

Sometimes, the connection is completed successfully, but after a certain period of time on the Internet, the connection is often lost.

A: If everything has worked properly so far, and you have not changed any crucial parameters, there is a probability that the problem is caused solely by the worsened conditions on the public PTT network. In this case persistence is recommended because after a couple of tries the connection will finally be established.

If the problem persists, it is necessary to check and sort out the shortcomings in the network configurations and the "Dial-Up Networking" part of your PC, following the instructions.

Q: I have problems while connecting from my Win2000 (I am using the connecting procedure from win9x)

A: Try turning off the "Negotiate multi-link for single link connections" in the dialogue for PPP Settings.
