Instruction for connecting to Medianis for Win98

Setting up your computer consists of three easy steps:

  1. setting up your TCP/IP configurations ,
  2. installing and setting up your Dial-up networking
  3. browser set-up

1. Setting up your TCP/IP

picture 1
  1. In Control Panel (Start -> Settings-> Control Panel) choose the Network icon.
  2. In a new window (Network, the picture 1), the Dial-up adapter and TCP/IP components should appear. However, if the Dial-up adapter and TCP/IP are not installed, this is the way to do it:

Dial-up adapter: Add -> Adapter -> Add -> Microsoft -> Dial-up Adapter -> OK

TCP/IP protocol: Add -> Protocol -> Add -> Microsoft -> TCP/IP -> OK

After the process of installation, Dial-up adapter and TCP/IP appear along with other components in the network. It is possible that after this step win9x asks for an installation disk or a diskette for win9x. In the case that you do not have it, get an installation disk for win9x because without Dial-up adapter and TCP/IP you cannot continue any further.

If your computer is not in a local area network and does not use any other protocols, the rest of the components in the network can be removed (if you wish) with the Remove command. The window should look like it does in the picture 1.

After the installation of win9x, you will be asked to restart the computer.

2. Installing and setting up your Dial-up Networking

  1. Click on the My computer icon (on the desktop).
  2. Click on Dial-up networking. If the icon is not visible or you cannot activate it, you need to install Dial-up networking in this way:
  3. Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove software -> Windows setup -> Communications -> Details -> check Dial-up networking -> then click OK to the end. For this step you need the installation disk or diskettes for win9x.

  4. Click on the Make new connection icon.
  5. Win9x will lead you through 3 steps where you need to enter the name of the connection you are creating and the number you are dialing. We recommend the connection name as MediaNis. The dial-up phone number is 500-000 or 042 110010 if you connect from the rest part of the country.
  6. After this there will appear the Medianis icon in the Dial-up networking. Apply a right mouse click on the Medianis icon and then click on the Properties.
  7. If you are dialing from Nis (area code 018) deselect the option Use country code and area code.
  8. Click on Configure. Check if the options Only connect at this speed and Wait for dial tone before dialing are deactivated, which they need to be.
  9. Click on Advanced and if the option is available, type in the extra settings field “ATX3 ”.
  10. Return with OK to the window with the Configure and Server Types options. Click on Server Types. Do the setup as in the picture 2.
  11. Click on TCP/IP Settings and setup the parameters as given in the picture 3.
  12. Keep clicking on OK until finish.
  13. You can make a shortcut to Medianis by placing the connection icon on your desktop.
